Sr Manager – Network Technology

Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have campus-wide, medical center or Office of the President effect. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

Under direction of CTO, the Associate Director of Infrastructure is responsible for providing a reliable and predictable enterprise system, storage, network, and cloud infrastructure that supports the business needs of the UCSF Health and Benioff's Children in Oakland and Affiliations (Marine General and Community Connect). This person must build a team of technology leaders, engineers and administrators that provide secured, advanced, reliable and secured infrastructure to the UCSF Medical Center, Affiliates, UCOP and other UC Health systems to enable improvements to patient safety while reducing the cost of hospital operations. This team must provide technical consultative and collaborative services to the Schools, Research communities, Clinical Applications team, Hospital Operations leaders and IT Operations leaders.

Department Description

Central IT provides infrastructure, network, security, analytics, integration, and application support services and is essential to the organization's ability to support growth, mitigate security risk, and manage, store and share sensitive information.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading teams
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with infrastructure design, deployment, and operations
  • Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility; with knowledge of other areas of IT
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • Has strong skills associated with managing the internal information systems functions, data communications network , systems, storage, and cloud
  • Extensive or advanced knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction
  • Extensive experience managing highly technical staff
  • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across organization
  • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software
  • Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor-supplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication
  • Experience with modern technologies, architectures and agile development methods, and are comfortable operating in complex, fast-moving environments
  • Experience operating complex multi-data center, multi-cluster environment and a strong understanding of multi-tenancy and security
  • Deep understanding of monitoring systems and processes
  • Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum development and continuous integration
  • Experience with development, deployment, operations, monitoring, managing cloud-based platforms
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

    • CCDP – Cisco Certified Design Professional
    • CCDE– Cisco Certified Design Expert

    • CCIE tracks – Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert
  • Knowledge and experience with build/deploy pipelines
  • Advanced degree preferred
