Classification: Staff Accountant
Compensation: $19.00 to $22.00 hourly
An up-and-coming firm has teamed up with Robert Half to find an efficient Staff Accountant to join their growing team. In this role, you will have responsibility over the preparation of journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. You'll also be responsible for various aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. This position will also require you to participate in compliance, as well as communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. The majority of time spent in this position involves producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This Iowa City, Iowa based company is offering a long-term contract / temporary to hire opportunity that is multi-faceted and challenging in nature. How you will make an impact
- Play a role in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
- Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision
- Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
- Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management
- Be a part of various initiatives spanning multiple departments
- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
- Aid in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
- Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
- Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules
- Be responsible for account reconciliations including prepaid expenses, payroll, and other assignments

- Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks- Command of Adjusting Journal Entries
- General ledger experience desired
- Demonstrated knowledge of Bank Account Reconciliation
- Account reconciliation experience highly desired
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Excel experience highly preferred
- Adeptness in Credit Card Reconciliation
- Journal entries experience
- Foundational knowledge in account reconciliation
- General familiarity with month end closings
- Recent and relevant accounting experience
- Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
- Spreadsheet and database capabilities
- Self-starter and strong ethical standards
- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Vow to meet business deadlines
- Skilled with ERP systems
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
