JOB OBJECTIVE:

To analyze, design, and introduce accounting data flow, accounting processes, and financial and analytical reporting solutions founded on leading edge technologies. Recommends and implements methods for increasing efficiency and profitability by analyzing financial business practices and accounting processes to suggest improvement regarding topics from budgeting and cash operations to fiduciary management. Work with individuals across the organization to ensure seamless integrations of the organization's business system platforms with the General Ledger systems and supporting data warehouses. Create operational efficiency through innovation and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work within cross-functional groups to support all aspects of the organization's financial reporting and audit requirements.
  2. Partner with the business team, users, and customers to elicit requirements and document financial reporting or integration issues.
  3. Support financial audit and regulatory compliance requirements.
  4. Work alongside Information Technology business analysts and application developers to evaluate the impact of new or change business application development on existing financial reporting processes to mitigate downstream impacts.
  5. Identify, improve, and develop technology solutions that drive organization's financial strategic goals.
  6. Conduct financial reporting risk assessments along with fit gap and cost analysis for proposed business solutions.
  7. Troubleshoot existing financial and business application/system components to determine system reporting or integration issues.
  8. Work directly with third party solution providers to understand their products and develop technical financial system integration specifications.
  9. Interact with finance leaders and third-party solution providers to assist in maintaining and updating financial system applications.
  10. Design business financial reporting solutions to maximize the use of a single source of financial information.
  11. Analyze and recommend new financial system technologies, services and ideas to improve financial tracking and processing efficiencies.
  12. Analyze data and financial reporting processes to provide recommendations on system modifications and designs to continually improve and streamline workflows.
  13. Develop ad hoc financial management reports and dashboards as needed or requested by business or financial leadership.
  14. Work with business and QA to prepare test plans and evaluate test results for business application implementations through financial journal entries and management reports.
  15. Work with finance applications' owners to provide backup and support of application security and maintenance.
  16. Present financial technical solutions, create supporting materials, and train finance or accounting staff on the correct usage of the organization's various technologies to accomplish business tasks.
  17. Investigates compliance/regulatory issues and concerns and recommends appropriate business solutions and/or strategies based on those issues.
  18. Construct reconciliation methodologies and ensure the proper coding/reporting needed to ensure core business systems, data warehouses and financials are balanced, or alerts are immediate when out of balance situations occur.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Be available for consulting and technical assistance for production problem resolution for daily or month end close and posting issues.
  2. Work with IT QA to perform manual or automated application integration testing to ensure financial transaction process correctly.
  3. Creates reconciliation scripts to ensure business systems and financial applications are synchronized and balanced.
  4. Create strong collaborative relationships with business and IT to provide consulting about financial impacts and considerations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or computer science or related field from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred; commensurate experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of five years full time or equivalent part time paid experience with a property/casualty or workers' compensation insurance carrier or equivalent insurance program is required.
  • Strong understanding of accounting processes, data flows, and business system's impact on accounting.
  • Excellent analytic, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to rapidly learn and take advantage of new concepts, business models, and technologies.
  • Strong understanding the functional accounting applications, business operations and technical flow of any business application.
  • Highly motivated, a quick learner, works independently or on a team to drive solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Experience and strong SQL knowledge and able to demonstrate competency in querying databases.
  • Training or knowledge in property-casualty insurance and statutory accounting rules and procedures.
