Job Title: Senior Medical Technologist
Location: Troy, MI
Duration: 3+ months contract (possibility of extension)
Timing: 40 hours/ week (Monday - Friday). Weekend coverage (4 hours on Saturday twice a month)
2 years Med Tech experience. Chemistry experience. Phlebotomy. MicroProduct experience. Unit uses Tosoh analyzer - Not required experience because unit will train.
Job Summary:
Under Minimal Supervision, performs routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and/or other body fluids or specimens, involving manual techniques or the use of laboratory instruments and information systems. Responsible for establishing and ensuring standard work with consistent quality and corrective and preventive action as needed. Participates in applied research and development projects to introduce new technology and improved methods.
Job responsibilities:
- Performs Calibration, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of technical equipment.
- Assists in the correction of technical problems and serves as a technical resource redirecting the workflow of assignments as necessary to ensure proper coverage and service standards.
- Following Successful completion of competency testing, may perform processing, testing, and result reporting without direct supervision.
- Teaches and ensures compliance with established divisional, departmental and institutional policies and procedures, including compliance, quality assessment and improvement, safety environmental and infection control.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Oversees quality assessment regulatory and accredited requirements.
- Oversees proficiency testing, quality control and competency assessment of technical staff. Maintains the lab in inspection ready status.
- Communicates with internal and external customers. Including Nurses, Physicians, and other healthcare workers concerning Laboratory procedures, Technology and related issues.
- Provides Discretion, guidance and follow up for questions and problems referred by the Lab staff concerning unusual or discrepant results.
Education:
- Completion of accredited Bachelor's Degree Program in chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Certification as the technologist level from a Nationally Recognized agency, such as ASCP, NCA, ASM, AABB, Client, or HEW is preferred.
Experience:
- Requires 3 years' experience with progressive responsibility in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform, teach, and lead laboratory functions is required.
