THE POSITION â" MUSEUM INTERPRETERS
Each year we bring our educational and engaging exhibits to cities across the US and Canada and we are looking for motivated individuals passionate about animals and people to join our team. Exhibits are typically open for three to six months during which guests listen to presentations and get to meet our staff and animals, interact, and ask questions
The foundation of our organization is the one-on-one interaction between the staff, the animals and the public. This positive, inspiring and unique experience is the crux of a successful Museum Exhibits. All of our staff are expected to interact with the public in a positive and professional manner, facilitate safe interaction with our animals, and promote our messaging relating to the contents of the exhibits as well as weaving in responsible pet ownership and conservation.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Museum Interpreter will report to the CEO, COO and appropriate Museum Staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Museum Presentations and Customer Service
· Deliver high quality, formal and informal presentations for all age levels in an entertaining and engaging manner. This includes:
o 3 â" 4 formal 30 minute presentations with hands on after the show;
o Continual presence on the floor all day with informal interactions with animals and clients;
· Excellent, positive group engagement for a variety of client types;
· Maintain and upgrade resource materials;
· Demonstrate initiative to improve programs and procedures;
· Incorporate conservation education messaging and activities into programming.
Animal Care
· Provide animal diets in an appropriate and timely manner;
· Maintain daily reports, logs, training and enrichment records, research or veterinary records, as appropriate;
· Ensure all work areas and equipment are up to and above standards for functionality and cleanliness;
· Ensure all animal areas are clean, maintained and perform animal husbandry procedures;
· Closely observe animals with regard to general appearance, food consumption levels and other health-related issues;
· Administer prescribed medications, supplements, or treatments under the guidance of the veterinary and supervisory staff. Museum Exhibits
· Maintain museum enclosure exhibits and off-display enclosures. This may include cleaning, scrubbing, disinfecting, sweeping, hosing, etc.;
· Assist in the renovation and restoration of animal exhibits;
· Maintain aesthetics of enclosures;
· Contribute to and create enhancements to museum enclosure exhibits;
· Ensure information panels, presentation space, interactives are operational, clean and in presentation quality.

· Presents a professional image in written and verbal skills as well as appearance;

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage a moderate animal care budget.
ACADEMIC/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
While a degree in a related field is an asset, LRNC recognizes and values field experience and professional development highly. There will be a required training period in preparation for this role.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
· Excellent Animal care experience;
· High quality show and presentation experience;
· Experience using animal care software;
· The ability to present information about nature and nature conservation in an entertaining and educational manner;
· A keen interest in natural history;
· A background in any of the following is an additional asset: presenting nature-based education programs; customer service, human resource management; policy development,
· Excellent oral and written communication skills that can be demonstrated.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Considerable on grounds mobility and long periods of time on feet. Lifting required.
